My son is in the first grade and loves learning how things work.  Yesterday, he found a science kit at a yard sale that lets him assemble various molecular structures using Styrofoam atoms which he got to paint.  Since the moment he bought it, he could not wait to paint the atoms (and employ as many other family members as would help him with this process). Once painted he quickly assembled compounds such as water (H2O) and propane (C3H8).  He was a little man possessed!  I told him he needed to slow down and leave something for his high school teachers to teach him or they'd all get bruised egos.  In this picture (at left) he displays his compounds.  He even made labels for them!  Remember, he's SEVEN.

My daughter was busy doing projects this weekend, too.  She is currently putting the finishing touches on her model of Mission San Luis Rey de Francia.  It will be delivered to school in time for the school's open house tomorrow night.  In the interest of equal boasting time, I'll be posting her final project here shortly.

On Friday, I took a group of 4/5th graders to The TECH Museum of Innovation in San Jose, CA.  Fun was had by all.  I won't post most of the pictures so as to protect my students' identities.  While I was there, I had the opportunity to ride a Segway (picture: above left).  It was easier than I thought it would be as long as you don't get too confident. 

I also took a couple more "artistic" pictures.  The second picture (above) is shooting up through the gorgeous skylight at the top of a cylindrical opening in the ceiling.  I loved the shadow effects!
