I can't and won't tell anyone else how to lose weight, mostly because I have not met these goals yet. I certainly can't tell you how to motivate anyone to really kick their weight loss efforts into high gear. I DO know that the words "eat less, move more" will fall on deaf ears if the hearer is not ready to make changes in their life. For each person, that point is different. For me, it was a growing list of things that I SHOULD be able to do but CAN'T coupled with the fact that I am turning FORTY before the end of the year. Up until now, age was just a number. The number FORTY, though, is a milestone. For many, it signals the beginning of a mid-life crisis. This may be MY mid-life crisis but not a typical one. I have no illusions of going skydiving or creating my own bucket list. But I DO want be healthier and enjoy the rest of my life in service to the Lord.
Corinthians 6:19 (New International Version)
19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
Hi again! I apologize for the long absence of REAL writings to this blog. Sometimes, I forget how much I enjoy posting to the blog and how much I NEED to blog. It's been quite a summer.
Since I am now doing well healthwise, I decided it was time to hit the treadmill. I walked for 30 minutes. Actually, I was running (yes, RUNNING) for about 2 minutes of it. It felt good. About 10 minutes into it, I felt like a dork, though, because the weather was nice enough to walk OUTSIDE and I was stuck staring at the wall that the treadmill faced. I could have just gotten off, but I was already doing my thing and rocking out to Daughtry. Daughtry is AWESOME workout music. He really gets you going! Hopefully, I can establish a schedule to I don't feel so exhausted at the end of the day, which is why it's hard to exercise in the first place. It's a chicken and egg thing.
Another 30 minutes on the treadmill this morning. Although briefly interrupted by a power outage, I was able to resume after a few minutes. Listened to yesterday's 1-Year Bible podcasts -- Old and New Testaments. What a great nice way to get my Bible reading in! Felt good to get going before breakfast. Teaching resumes next week so I'll have to establish a schedule that works once things return to normal. Wish me luck.,..
I don't recall ever making New Year's resolutions in January. I have set PROFESSIONAL GOALS in September every year as it is the start of a new school year and I am a teacher, but never New Year's resolutions. However, I feel the need to make some big changes in my life. Several factors have brought most of these issues to a head, but for the sake of brevity, I will not bore you with these details. I am listing them here for those who are interested and for my own benefit.
- Watch more movies - My HD DVD player and I, in partnership with my Netflix account, have a pact to spend more time together.
- Lose weight - Yes, I am joining the millions of Americans who resolve to fight the battle of the bulge this year. And yes, I still plan to continue to eat and exercise long after most of these healthy hopefuls have reverted back to old habits. Inspired by "The Biggest Loser", Oprah, the Healthy Catholic Podcast and others, I will strive to make the necessary changes in my lifestyle to get fit and stay that way.
- Read the Bible in a Year - I don't think I have the discipline to read the Good Book everyday in print so I have subscribed to the "One Year Bible on Radio" podcast. It covers a daily section from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs as presented by Tom Dooley (really?). What a great way to use my drive time!
- Be more involved in the household finances. With help from David Ramsey, I hope to stop working for the credit card companies soon.
There are other minor resolutions, but these are my major ones. I plan to blog on these and other items regular.
